Evaluation

PRE-PRODUCTION

Our pre-production was split out in our group. I had the job of equipment checklist and regular minuted meetings.
I started working on these straight away. I wrote down all of the meetings the group had and wrote down the decision making. I worked out all of the equipment we needed and I wrote down everything that we use in the TV studio. Some people out of the group had to be pushed to make them get on with their roles, but they did do it in the end with a lot of pushing.
I feel like I did well writing down the minuted meetings and the check list was easy but I feel like I should have took on more roles in the pre-production. Then I would have felt like I had done more work and that I would have put more effort into the group.
I liked the final logo our group came up with. We went through a few logos and finally, it looked really original.

I also like the song we have chosen for the opening. 'In it to win it'. It's a really good song because our game show is called In it to win it and so the name of the song goes with the name of the show.
I think our group chose a good show to record, a game show. We planned it and thought about it but I think our group overall was not very productive. Every time we had a practice run, it did not go very well and we had to go back and re-plan it again. The students turned up late a lot and I really think they should have been more reliable. I think everyone should have put more effort into this unit because I seemed like no one wanted to pass. I always tried my best to come in and be one time but I think there was a few times I wasn't on time and I should have tried harder to be in on time. I always tried to have a happy attitude while on set because the actors and other students were always talking and I couldn't help myself by shouting at everyone. I should have been more calm and tried to be patient with everyone.
If we had to do it again, I would choose better people to work with because they might care more about their grades and not mess about while trying to record and they would be turning up on time to class.
Eventually, the game show came together and it seemed like a real game show. This took a lot of practice and patients. The actors finally acted as if it was real and the show ran smoothly but it only had a few faults sometimes.

I really enjoyed recording this game show, being the floor manager was a great role. I learnt a lot about being the floor manager, they control the scene, tell the actors information if needed and they can tell the actors what to do. I love how a floor manager can talk to the people in the control room. At first I struggled being the floor manger and I had trouble keeping everyone quiet but in the end I was able to take control of the actors and people in the studio.
Next time, I would really love to be the sound person or a camera person. It looked really fun controlling the sound and I enjoy being behind a camera, as I've tried it before.

Overall, I really learnt a lot about the different roles of a studio and I have gained a lot of experience. I had a lot of fun in the studio and I would love to start filming from the start again to make it a better and smoother run through, also with better planning.

Studio

01/03/16

Today we went though our show in the studio. It's nice when you can practice because it gives you a feel of what the real thing is going to be like. It's good to go through the show because if you any problems, you are able to fix them and see what went wrong.

REFLECT

I had two tasks for the pre-production.

  1. Regular production meetings
  2. Equipment checklist
I have completed these and am ready to go into the studio to record our show. After completing my part of the pre-production, I had nothing to do so I started to write the elevator pitch for the show.
Our group has completed all of the pre-production except for the script which is nearly done.
I think I did a fair bit of the pre-production and when I finished I helped even more with things that hadn't been done.
My strengths have been updating my blog with meetings of what everyone has been doing.
While in the studio, I have tried being a floor manager and I have tried using the equipment in the control room and I have also used the cameras. Personally, I liked using the camera and being the floor manager best.
Our class need to work better at using the control room and the cameras, by doing this I think it will look like they are being more professional.
I always give work in on time, I have managed timing good. My attendance and punctuality have been really good in this project.
The weakness of our team is that they never turn up on time or do not come in at all.
I think I deserve a Merit, this is because I think I could have done some more pre-production.

FEEDBACK FROM IVOR

Ivor came in to talk to us about our game show. He gave us feedback of how to make our game show more professional.
  • Ivor said that we should do the elevator pitch at the start of the show, this would be a challenge for us to present the idea over to the audience and this way they will understand the concept of the show better.

IN IT TO WIN IT

  • Ivor said to check if there is any other game show called In It To Win It and there is a show on BBC, so we can't really use this name as it is already taken. He said to always check names before you choose your name but he did say he did like the name.

  • He said to make the rounds more interesting, we should make each round different from the other. He also said we could also maybe add tension in the rounds, this will be more entertaining for the audience.

  • When he saw the presentation, he said we needed to be more clear about the audience. This is important because when you're presenting to someone, they need to easily understand what your aim is. He also said what time are we going to have the show on tv. We need to make this clear on the presentation.

  • He said that we should create some jokes to put in the script to make the show more entertaining. Comedy is always a good way to make people laugh and make the show more interesting. He also said that we should make the script longer so that we will have enough script to work with.

Practice for shooting

We tried to practice for our game show, we tried about 5 times. In the end, we had a good run.
Everyone knew what they were doing and I think we are ready to record it.

Group Meeting on 10/02/16

We talked about the roles of everyone and made sure they know what they are doing. We discussed what we are going to do about the revealing of the answers, we talked about using the whiteboard and having a sticky paper over the answers and then revealing them when needed.
We also talked about my role, I'm the floor manager. I will be telling everyone what to do and I will also be keeping scares of the teams.
The lighting was discussed, we want a party light/laser for the beginning of the show when all of the lights are off. This will make the show look more exciting.

Practice

Yesterday, (09/02/16) our group went into the green-screen room and practiced our game show. Everyone was doing their roles and getting used to their roles.
I'm the floor manager and I enjoyed doing this role.
We had about 4/5 practices of the show. Personally, I think we need more practice but it was alright for our first try.
I think we need to work how we are going to deal with the answers and how we are going to put them either on the board or on the screen.
